So the current version can create images but not restore them? kinda pointless if you cant use it to restore.

Now lve recreated a clean image using smart recovery2 (a gigabyte tool) however it seems to have an annoying drawback, that being that because l have my system set to japanese for the locale settings so l can execute programs with japanese characters it seems to have the unfortunate annoyance of changing the gui of the smart recovery program, there wasnt any setting when l installed to change the language and l cant find any settings menu to do anything either as lm using only that gigabyte tool rather than any of the others, you see l had some issues with their tools and if l installed them it made no sense to create problems installing programs l didnt need or really use, suffice to say lm either looking for a way to force the program to use english or find another better program that wont cost me anything that will create a system image that works should l need to restore my system without having to go through the annoyance of reinstalling again from scratch. with storage available today at very reasonable costs, a whole "library" of images can mean that in the event of operating system or software problems, that cannot be fixed in the usual ways in a timely manner then a disc image can be used to get up and running again in less time than it takes to walk the dog.L recently reinstalled due to annoyances which were bothering me so much l had to do something about them (basically l was getting random detection sounds like when removing and connecting usb devices, however it was still doing it without any devices). Regular disc images taken at suitable intervals thereafter are a wise investment. I hope this helps, the idea of taking a good disc image ( or two) once your machine is set up to your requirements, with all software installed ( and before it has the opportunity to accumulate undesirable code or ineffective settings) is an excellent one. Hopefully you will find the same as I have done, but just one word of caution, I tend to use software that I know works Ok for me and I do not necessarily always use the latest version, so it's possible that the latest versions may act differently. The file date of the image file (the "container") of all the files in the disc image has always been the date the image was taken, that is to say In short the answer for me has always been : On each occasion the original file details have been as they were. I have used Macrium Reflect on a number of occasions, and over many years, both to make an image and also to restore one.
